NBA, the hottest professional basketball league has announced this year’s Most Valuable Player. The man wearing jersey number 24, Kobe Bryant, outperformed the rest of the MVP candidates such as Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett and LeBron James. He was picked as the number one NBA player today as presented by Kia Motors. Throughout US and Canada, Kobe garnered 1,105 points and had successfully won the Maurice Podoloff Trophy. Kobe’s winning includes 82 first place votes, from a panel of 126 sportswriters and broadcasters.
Throughout his 11 years of being an NBA Veteran, this basketball star had finally achieved his dreams. Kobe was even admired with his speech being one of the players in the Elite Club of Lakers that has been honored as MVP. Kobe says, “I’m deeply honored to be here. This is a team award. This is not an individual award. The special thing about this award is that we did it together. I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Maybe Kobe really deserves to win the trophy. Even the vote on my own poll, as shown here on my blog says it all. Without any doubt, this tough guy really proves his own strength and releases his actual talent in the paint. That’s why for me, he definitely deserves to win the 2007-2008 MVP award.

Who will win NBA’s MVP?
Who do you think will win NBA’s MVP this year? Will it be Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Lebron James or Kevin Garnett? Why do you think they deserve to win this year’s MVP?
In my point of view, Kobe deserves to win because his team is the top team this season in the West. He proves it even without Andrew Bynum for half of the season. But, I’m sure you will say they’ve got Pau Gasol. Yes, the addition of Pau is a big help and we know he also got injured but still, the Lakers keep on winning and Kobe really has a big role for their wins. He also passes the ball to his teammates and play good defense with other players. I think that these are some of his advantages to the other MVP candidates.
Chris Paul, Wow! I’m really impressed even though he is small; he proves that he is one of the best players in the NBA. Shoot, pass and steals, what a good number on his stats! He is good and I think he is also surrounded with great players. He has with him the pure 3 point shooter, Peja Stojakovic. David West who is an All Star player at the same time has he’s shooting ability improved so much. Tall guys like Tyson Chandler were Paul can pass an alley hoop every time Chandler is near the ring. Having Jannero Pargo, Morris Peterson, Bonzi Wells and other known players in their Bench. That’s the reason why I think he is behind Kobe Bryant in winning the MVP.
Lebron James, no doubt he is the best player in the league today. He has impressive numbers in his stats like Chris Paul but Lebron is above superior. Always almost triple-double every game they play. But why he can’t win the MVP is because of their team standing. Their standing is not that high enough even though he plays in a different level. The reason behind this is his supporting casts. They exchange Gooden and Hughes who can contribute big numbers in scoring and replace them with defensive players. I think, what their team needs is a scorer that will really help Lebron. That I think is the reason why their standing is not that good and it won’t help Lebron in getting the MVP. But to those teams that will meet them in the playoffs, I’m sure they are in a big trouble.
Kevin Garnett is in the team that has the best standing in the NBA. I think they did it because they are in the east. If this team is in the West, they can still be on top but I think their winnings will not be in 60 above. Or maybe, they can get 60 wins but not more than that. I don’t think he can win the MVP because he is surrounded with great players, too. He has 2 superstars with him, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. And look at their bench; this also contributes to what I say that he is surrounded with talented players. Even without him, they can still survive and win. Kevin Garnett is one of the great players in the NBA but I don’t think he deserves to win this year’s MVP. Also, his numbers went down half of the season until the season ended.
I think Kobe Bryant is this year’s MVP. And I believe this year is one of the hardest years in choosing the MVP. These 4 players are really playing good for their teams. Do you think I made the right choice in this year's MVP?

As I watched the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight, I might say it was one of the very close fights that I have ever watched. I have my scorecard for this fight:

I’m very thankful that Manny won the fight. For the result, I don’t need to argue with anyone else because I believe that the fight was really close so no need for us to judge who will win. I also believe that Manny deserved it. And since I said that the fight was really close, whoever won between them is just fine because they both deserve it. They gave the people an entertaining fight for the night (and morning for other countries). Even though Manny had difficulties fighting for a counter puncher like Marquez, he proved to the whole world that he can make it, toe to toe up to the 12th round and even won the battle. He’s even the first Asian boxer who’s three times world champion. CONGRATULATIONS MANNY PACQUIAO for proving that we Filipino can stand out among other countries when it comes to boxing. I’d like to say this again and again because it’s so nice to hear, “The New WBC and Ring Super Featherweight Champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao”!

Sta. Lucia - All Filipino Champ
Sta. Lucia is the new All Filipino PBA Champions after winning it yesterday against Purefoods. It’s their first All Filipino Championship title ever since they joined the PBA in 1993. They need to play and finish the 7 games before capturing the trophy for their first ever All Filipino Championship. The Championship games were so physical from start to finish. All throughout game 1 to 7, both teams were in high spirit that led Purefoods’ star player James Yap suspended for 1 game by hitting Sta. Lucia’s Joseph Yeo in the face. James Yap was out for game 5 because of the suspension. However, Joseph Yeo was also penalized plus a game suspension by hitting Noy Castillo in the face in game 4 of the finals and his suspension was set to happen in game 5, which corresponds to the game suspension of James Yap. In game 6, it was James Yap’s hot shooting in the fourth quarter that pushes the finals to game 7. And in the most crucial moment of the do or die game, All Sta. Lucia players contributed well when their coach put them in the game. But their veteran Dennis Espino was the star of the night and captured the finals’ MVP award. The defense of Sta. Lucia brought them to this championship, proving that they are now one of the best defensive teams in the PBA. Sta. Lucia Realtors are composed of 2 physical guards namely Ryan Reyes and Dennis Miranda with 3 shot blockers like Marlou Aquino, Dennis Espino and Kelly Williams. Kelly Williams also registered his 22nd double-double performance in the conference in terms of points and rebounds which is the highest among all players in the PBA. The final score in game 7 which led Sta. Lucia to victory is 100-88.

NBA’s Latest Happenings
Missing Yao Ming
Too bad for Houston Rockets’ fans, Yao Ming will be out for the remainder of the season due to a stress fracture in his left foot as revealed by their General Manager Daryl Morey last Tuesday. Yao is expected to be out for 3 to 4 months before starting a rehab to make him well.
The Rockets are now on their 13th straight wins after attaining a victory against Wizard today, their first win without Yao Ming. They are one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now. But, things might change since Yao Ming will be gone for a couple of months. In today’s game however, they show that they can still win even without Yao. Thanks to their other players who stepped up like Luther Head who’s the top scorer of Houston for today’s game. Rafer Alston also contributed 13 points and another 14 pts from Luis Scola. Adding up to this list of contributors is another Houston star player, T-Mac. For the Houston fans don’t worry because still, T-Mac is in good shape and their rookie Luis Scola is having a good game that really helps the team to gain more winnings. Not mentioning their bench players that show and prove that they can win even without Yao. Just look on their showmanship for today’s game - they are really amazing! Hope they will continue winning for the sake of all Houston fans out there. Good Luck!
Kobe's Back on Top
On the other hand, I’m a Kobe fan so I’m so happy to see his name on top of the list of Maurice Brooks’ “Race to the MVP” column in the NBA.COM. For me, he deserves to be the NBA’s MVP this year. I know he can score a lot but now, if you see him play you will see that he really developed his passing skills. The leadership he shows his teammates really motivates them to play to the highest level. Maybe that’s what makes their team on top in the West for this season. Now that Kobe trusts the ability of his teammates, everyone has really stepped up. They rotate the ball so well and look for a better shot every game. Pau Gasol is really a big addition to their team. Can’t wait to see Andrew Bynum back on the game playing together with Pau Gasol for the power forward position and then Lamar Odom will be their small forward, Kobe as their shooting guard and Derek Fisher as their point guard. Also, they also give their bench players the credit by playing in high spirit like Jordan Farmer, Luke Walton, Sasha Vujacic, Ronny Turiaf, Vladimir Radmanovic and Coby Karl. Looking at today’s game against Portland Trail Blazers, Kobe lead his team with 30 points, 7 assists and 9 rebounds that helped a lot for the Lakers’ victory. The Lakers’ bench players also contributed in today’s game. Sasha Vujacic has 12 points; Jordan Farmer has 21 points having 4 out 5 in the three-point line and other players who also give their important contributions especially when it comes to defense, to overcome the 7-point half time lead by the Blazers.
Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Unfinished Business
The much awaited fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will happen this coming March 15, 2008 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Las Vegas, NV, USA. The first time they met on the ring, the result of the fight was a draw. Marquez had been down 3 times in the first round but he tried to recover and give Manny a hard fight till the end of the 12th round. Heading on to this fight, Manny’s advantage is being young, also his speed and power, while Marquez is good in counter punch and really a smart boxer. For me, this will certainly be a great fight. In terms of training, I heard that Marquez started training by December last year which means he is much prepared than Pacquiao. However, Manny is different as compared to the first time they met on the ring. I should know it because I watched every fight he had dealt with and I saw a lot of development in his boxing style. I’ll bet for Manny Pacquiao. Not because he is a Filipino like me but simply because I believe in his own power. I just want him to face Edwin Valero in his next fight to prove to the world that he is truly the best in his current division just before he went up for the next division level.
When I visit www.mannypacquiao.ph I noticed that one of his articles entitled “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility” is certainly an awesome piece. He sounds like Spiderman. A famous superhero ready to face all the challenges rested upon him. I also observed that now, he has that sense of humor. Maybe that’s what happened especially now that he is a local actor. In all of these, I do hope that Manny Pacquiao will win the fight against Marquez so that he will make the Filipino communities anywhere in the world, proud and happy. Go Manny Pacquiao! Show them the real strength of a Filipino warrior! We are proud of you!

NBA‘s Latest Three-Team Trading: Gives the Best Casts for Cavaliers
Around 2:59 pm of February 21, just before the 2008 NBA trading ends, Cavaliers have acquired the best deal that surprises every NBA fan. The fact that LeBron James also known as “King James” will now be backed up by the really tough center, Ben “The Big Ben” Wallace from Chicago Bulls and the master of three-points, the 30-yr old forward Wally Szczerbiak from SuperSonics, every basketball fan will say that this team now has the capacity to outperform the rest of the team in the league. Accompanied with Joe Smith, also from Bulls and Delonte West of Sonics who are also dominant players inside the court, Danny Ferry simply got the icing on the cake.
As part of James’ agony of getting additional help from superlative players who can possibly be traded from the other teams, Ferry pays more attention to the major necessity of the Cavaliers. Although the liable GM already admitted that it is hard for him to let go of his own men like Larry Hughes, Shannon Brown, Cedric Simmons and Drew Gooden to the Bulls, and the reliable forwards Donyell Marshall and Ira Newble to the Sonics, he accepted the fact that a good team should take the risks if they are really eyeing to win the championship. Ferry also stated that his only reason of accepting this trade is to generally help his team, continue to build their confidence and grow. This recent trade is just one of the most talked-about trading of other NBA stars like the very intriguing Shaquille O'Neal, Shawn Marion, Jason Kidd and Pau Gasol which are now happy with their newly designated teams. And even though the Cavs most likely have got the best deal just before the deadline, it will still vary on their team performance especially on their defensive edge whether they really have the key to win the trophy. Looks like it’s another “one hell of a challenge” for these newly-assembled NBA lineups to prove which among them deserves to win the championship. Who do you think will win? Well, I have gathered a list of possible teams that I think will qualify to fight in the NBA championship title.
